Australia have beaten Sri Lanka in their third match of the ODI World Cup 2023, at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting considers Team India's chances of winning the World Cup 2023 and believes that they will be a hard side to beat as they have the ability to soak intense pressure well. The Men in Blue had a convincing victory over the five-time world champions in their first match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
The Rohit Sharma-led side is one of the most formidable sides in the mega event. They are searching for their third World Cup after winning the 1983 and 2011. Rohit Sharma would like to end the major trophy drought of the two-time World Champions, as they are yet to win a major trophy since the 2013 Champions trophy. Recently they beat their arch-rivals Pakistan and are high on confidence after making 8 out 8 times against the 1992 champions.
Ponting also believes that Rohit is the perfect and most suitable captain to lead the team as the World Cup is held in Indian conditions. The 36-year-old batter has led team India from the front as the batter has scored a hundred against Afghanistan and scored a blistering 86 runs against Babar Azam's side.
They've got all bases covered with their fast bowling, their spin and their top-order, middle-order batting: Ricky Ponting
Ponting while speaking with the Cricket Governing Body stated, "I said from the start that I think they're going to be the team to beat. They've got a very talented team. They've got all bases covered with their fast bowling, their spin and their top-order, middle-order batting. They're going to be extremely hard to beat. But we'll see how they hold up under extreme pressure as well."
Speaking about Rohit the former World Cup winner said, "Rohit is very calm. That calmness is evident in everything Rohit does. You can even see it in the way he plays. Rohit is also a concise batsman, both on and off the field. "At some point the pressure doesn't get to them, or it can be said without a doubt that it doesn't affect them."
