The Netherlands created history in the ODI World Cup 2023 as the Men in Orange defeated South Africa by 38 runs, in the marquee tournament. They shocked the Proteas by coming out on top at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala. It was the second upset of the ongoing mega event after Afghanistan defeated England.

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards led his team from the front when his team was struggling at one stage. They scored 104 runs in the last 9 overs. He played an unbeaten knock of 78 runs and posted a defendable total of 245/8. In response, batters struggled to chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals and they were bowled out for 207 runs.

Netherlands many many congratulations on your historic win: Irfan Pathan

Pathan posted on Twitter, "Netherlands many many congratulations on your historic win. You were disciplined throughout the game. Especially in bowling. Wo chitthi mein kya hai???".

Former India skipper Sachin Tendulkar also tweeted, saying, "This World Cup is throwing up interesting results! Was nice to see the Netherlands Captain Scott Edwards lead from the front with a fighting knock after they were 140/7 at one stage. What pleased me the most about them in the field was how they put the SA batters under pressure. A win and a night to remember for them!"

After the match, skipper Edwards said, "I suppose we go into every game with our plans and our ways that we're going to try and win the game. For us, it's just about playing our best brand of cricket and we feel like if we play well enough on the day, we can beat any side."
