Have fast bowlers dominated ODI World Cup 2023 compared to spinners in India?

The pitches in India are known as spin-friendly wickets but it is the pacers who are dominating the wicket-taking charts in the tournament so far.

The ODI World Cup 2023 has so far been great as the fans have seen some entertaining cricketing games so far. One upset of the mega event took place after Afghanistan defeated defending champions England and shocked the whole cricket fraternity. However, the Indian pitches have behaved in an unusual way on some grounds. The pitches in India are known as spin-friendly wickets but it is the pacers who are dominating the wicket-taking charts in the tournament so far.

The fans have also seen some high-scoring games in the World Cup with the Proteas scoring 428 runs against Sri Lanka in Delhi's Arun Jaitely Stadium, which is known for being spin-friendly but is yet to behave like that. So far 15 matches have been played in the tournament, and the top wicket-takers standings are controlled by pacers. Four of the top five wicket-takers in this World Cup are pacers. 

However, Ravindra Jadeja, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, and Adam Zampa have been crucial for their side. These spinners have taken wickets in the middle overs. The Afghan spinner duo have webbed against the defending champions England and have created problems for them. 

Jasprit Bumrah leading the chart so far

Bumrah has been exceptional since his return from the injury. He performed superbly in the Asia Cup 2023. In the ongoing mega event. He has got wickets in all the three matches he played. The veteran pacer has been good with the new ball and in the death overs. So far he has taken 8 wickets in 3 matches with an average, of 11.62 and an economy of 3.44. 

Next in the list is New Zealand's Mitchell Santner, he is the only spinner in the top 5 list. The Kiwi spinner has been key for the Black Caps because of his experience of playing in Indian conditions. He picked up a fifer against the Netherlands. He has also bagged 8 wickets but for his average of 15.8, and an economy of 4.23. 

The next on the list is Santer's teammate Matt Henry. He took three wickets in New Zealand's first two matches. Henry also has 8 wickets and averages 18.25 with an economy of 5.12. Next on the list is Pakistan's Hasan Ali who has bagged 7 wickets in 3 matches.
