'It is a moment to savour' - Sunil Gavaskar gives his prediction for Virat Kohli's 50th ODI hundred

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar gave his prediction for Virat Kohli's 50th ODI hundred ahead of India's match against England in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Virat Kohli has been in amazing form in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. In 5 matches in the tournament so far, Kohli has 354 runs at a batting average of 118.00, at a strike rate of 90.54, including a hundred and three fifty-plus scores. Virat has also fielded well in the tournament and has taken some blinders. As a fielder, Virat has taken 5 catches in the tournament. 

So far, the star cricketer has had a tremendous tournament as a batter. Virat is the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament till now, only behind South Africa's Quinton De Kock. In 5 matches, Virat has four fifty-plus scores, which shows his tremendous consistency. Against Australia, Virat scored 85 runs in 116 balls, which helped India to chase 200 in Chennai in challenging conditions. 

Against Afghanistan, Virat scored an unbeaten 55*(56) and helped India to chase 274 in Delhi. Against Pakistan, Kohli did not have a great outing. The Indian number 3 scored 16 runs in 18 balls and was dismissed by Hasan Ali. Against Bangladesh, Kohli played a fabulous knock and scored an unbeaten 103*(97), which helped India to win the match by 7 wickets.

Against New Zealand, Virat played one of his best innings. On a good wicket, Virat helped India with a score of 95(104). Many were sad that Kohli could not score a hundred in the match. Reacting to the same, Gavaskar felt that Kohli's 50th ODI hundred is not too far away. "Kohli will slam his 50th ODI Century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens and what better occasion than his birthday?” said Gavaskar.

The former India cricketer added that it would be great to see the Kolkata crowd appreciating Kohli. "It's a sight when you slam a ton there because the Kolkata crowd gives you a standing ovation, and cheers for you, the air is filled with whistles and claps. It is a moment to savour for every batter,” added Gavaskar, who felt that Virat would complete his milestone against South Africa.
