In a day filled with controversies, Angelo Mathews gave a send off to Shakib Al Hasan after dismissing him in Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi in the ODI World Cup 2023.

A huge controversy erupted during the match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup 2023. Angelo Mathews was given 'Timed out' for the first time in the history of cricket. As Mathews took a lot of time to come to the middle after ther dismissal of the Sri Lankan batter, there was a lot of wastage of time. The miseries pof Sri Lanka was to get worse. 

As Mathews came late, he happened to realise that his starp in the helmet was damaged. Realizing it, Mathews called the dressing room to get him a new helmet. Mathews did not consult umpire or the opposition captain before calling his teammate. Shakib thought that Mathews wasted a lot of time to play the first ball and appealed to the on-field umpire. 

Marais Erasmus declared Mathews out, as he took a lot of time to face the ball. The experienced batter pleaded the umpire and Shakib. Mathews explained that his helmet was not good. But the decision was already made. It led to th3e disappointment of the fans and a lot of them criticised the move of Bangladesh and Shakib to appeal for the dismissal.

Angelo Mathews has his revenge

After the incident, Sri Lanka posted 279 runs in their first innings. Chasing the total, Bangladesh found themselves at 41/2. That was when Shakib enetered the middle and anchored the chase. The Southpaw played a very good knock and scored 82 runs in 65 balls. Till then, Shakib had a very good game. Earlier in the match, shakib had claimed a couple of wickets with the ball as well. 

Mathews was then brought to the attack. The good looking 169-run stand for the third wicket between Shakib and Najmul Shanto was broken, as Mathews got rid of Shakib. Charith Asalanka claimed a fantastic catch to dismiss Shakib. After the dismissal, Mathews gave a send off to Shakib. Mathews had a huge smile and pointed out at the band he wore on his left hand, indicating about the time.
