India will face Pakistan on October 14 in their ODI World Cup 2023 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Pakistan, on Tuesday, chased a mammoth total of 345 runs against Sri Lanka at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. They have got a big confidence boost ahead of the match against India, after chasing the big target. This is the biggest run chase in the World Cup history.
Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique scored brilliant centuries cancelling out the two centurions of Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarwickrama of Sri Lanka. All four batters made their debut ton in the World Cup. Rizwan scored 131 runs and he was unbeaten till the end, Shafique scored 103-ball 113 runs. They have now won two back-to-back matches and this chase will give them a boost in the ongoing World Cup.
Rizwan said that he found quite a few similarities between the pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium and Rawalpindi. The Pakistan team received a warm welcome in Hyderabad and the crowd has given them good support in the stadium as well.
I felt like I was playing a match in Pindi: Mohammad Rizwan
Rizwan, after the match, said, "And where you talked about Hyderabad, I felt like I was playing a match in Pindi. The way the crowd gave love today, and not just me, the whole Pakistan team gave love. In fact, they supported Sri Lanka too. Because I am happy that the crowd in Hyderabad has supported cricket, both Sri Lanka and us. I had a lot of fun with them."
The wicket-keeper batter further added, "The curator here said the same thing to me. When we got to the ground for the first time, he said, Rizwan, you must hit two 100s on this ground. I met him today as well. We can pray for him and you should pray for him too. When we reached the ground, Abdul Rahman who is also our coach and there were 2-3 more players with me, said, 'Rizwan this pitch looks like a batting pitch. When we were bowling, I think it was 32nd or 33rd over that time, I told (Mohammed) Nawaz and 2-3 other players, if we restrict Sri Lanka to 340-plus, then I hope it's the best. If it goes above that, it means we're not bowling well."
