Pakistan team handed 10% fine of their match fee after New Zealand ODI World Cup 2023 clash

The Men in Green have been fined 10 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against the Kiwis. Babar Azam's side have kept their knockouts hope alive after the win on Saturday.

Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 21 runs (DLS method) in the ODI World Cup 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Fakhar Zaman scored a brilliant hundred since his comeback to the side. The Men in Green have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against the Kiwis. Babar Azam's side have kept their knockouts hope alive after the win on Saturday. 

Fakhar played one of the best innings of his career. The Kiwis batting first scored 401/6 in their 50-over. Rachin Ravindra who has been in exceptional form in the tournament scored his third hundred in the event and became the first New Zealand batter to score three centuries in a single edition of the World Cup. Kane Williamson also scored a brilliant 95 runs off 79 deliveries. 

In response, Pakistan lost their opener Abdullah Shafique early, after Fakhar did not stop playing shots and was supported by skipper Babar Azam who played an anchoring role alongside the left-handed batter. The Southpaw scored 126 runs off 81 balls smashing 11 sixes and 8 fours.

A Cricket Governing Body, media release stated, "Richie Richardson of the Emirates Cricket Governing Body Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Babar Adam's side was ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration." According to Article 2.22 of the Cricket Governing Body Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are penalised 5% of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl in the permitted time. 

The skipper's problem continues as he has been lashed for his poor captaincy skills and out-of-form and now for slow over-rate. He has accepted his guilt and is ready to pay the penalty. Paul Wilson and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire Richard Illingworth, and fourth umpire Joel Wilson made the charges.
