PM Narendra Modi praises India and Mohammed Shami for performance in semi-final

India overcame New Zealand by 70 runs in the Semifinal 1 of the ODI World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With an exceptional performance from the batting unit, India was able to post a mammoth total of 397 runs on the board. Despite the fightback from New Zealand, the home side won the match pretty comfortably towards the end. 

The win of India was received well in India. The fans, former cricketers, experts and everyone else appreciated India for the performance. With the bat, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul were the star performers, who all contributed to the team's eventual total. The knocks of these batters gave the early momentum in the match for India in the big match. 

Chasing the target, New Zealand was stuck by the wrath of Mohammed Shami. The star bowler registered his career-best figures with the ball. The seam bowler claimed a 7-wicket haul and reduced New Zealand's batters to low scores. Barring Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell, other batters could not succeed in the run chase. The spell of Shami totally took the match away from the Kiwis.

The performance of India and South Africa received huge praise from everyone. The Indian Prime minister took to X and congratulated the team on the win. "Congratulations to Team India! India puts up a superlative performance and enters the Finals in remarkable style. Fantastic batting and good bowling sealed the match for our team. Best wishes for the Finals!," said Modi, who wished the best luck for the team in the final. 

Narendra Modi congratulated Mohammed Shami for his performance in the match. The Indian PM wrote that the match was more special because of Shami's performance. "Today's Semi-Final has been even more special thanks to stellar individual performances too. The bowling by @MdShami11 in this game and also through the World Cup will be cherished by cricket lovers for generations to come. Well played Shami," added Modi.
