24-year-old Shubman Gill continued his amazing form with the bat in 2023 against Sri Lanka on Thursday. The Indian opener top scored with 92 runs during the ODI World Cup 2023 game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Just days before the start of the ODI World Cup 2023, Shubman Gill was suffering from dengue. The 24-year-old missed the first two games against Australia and Afghanistan before making a comeback for the game versus Pakistan.
At the end of the game, Shubman Gill spoke candidly about his health and come back to the team. The revelations made by the young Indian opener left a few fans and cricket experts in complete shock.
‘Had lost four kilos’- Exclaims Shubman Gill
After his match-winning knock of 92 runs, Shubman Gill took some time out and spoke to Star Sports India at the end of the game in Mumbai. The 24-year-old joined Sunil Gavaskar and Naseer Hussain to share his views.
The Indian opener said, “Not in full fitness, I am four kilos down from dengue in terms of mass and muscle weight”. Shubman Gill before the ODI World Cup 2023 had scored 1230 runs in ODI Cricket.
With the bat on Thursday, Shubman Gill was at his imperious best scoring 92 runs with the bat. Just when he was looking good for a century, the youngster was caught behind by Kusal Mendis off Dilshan Madushanka.
Speaking about the conditions, Gill said “The oddball was seaming and I hit the balls in my areas. You couldn't get into a shell. I looked to put pressure on the bowlers. I felt in the previous matches I got starts except for the last one"
Shubman Gill also had words of praise for the Indian bowlers and the way they bowled. India had bowled out Sri Lanka for 55 runs to win the game by 302 runs. Gill had this to say about the Indian bowlers “The way they were bowling, we were anticipating wickets. Siraj is always fired up. They were sensational. They have made the job easier for us. Shreyas was the key today. He batted superbly”.
