The ODI World Cup 2023 clash between New Zealand and the Netherlands is currently underway. The Kiwis, batting first, scored a mammoth 322 runs for the loss of seven wickets, with three batters scoring half-centuries. Rachin Ravindra, yet again, scored a run-a-ball 51 runs and opener Will Young was the highest run scorer with 70 runs off 80 deliveries. Even after a slow start, New Zealand was able to get past 300 runs in their 50 overs. Kane Williamson was also not available for this match as he is not fully match fit. Though the batter batted in the two warm-up games and looked in fine touch.
Skipper Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell built a partnership while the Kiwis were struggling at 185 for 3. The former hit a half-century and Mitchell scored 48 runs off 47 deliveries. After being 238/3 in 40 overs, they lost 3 wickets in the next 5 overs and led the Kiwis in the backfoot from there some quick-fire runs made sure they scored past 310 runs.
There is a proverb that 'catches win matches', During the 17th over, Rachin Ravindra bowled a slow fuller delivery wide of off-stump to Bas de Leede. Bas de Leede lofts the ball up and tries hitting it over mid-off in search of a boundary. Veteran pacer Trent Boult who was fielding at the long-off timed his jump to perfection and pulled off a stunning catch.
New Zealand's dream run continues
New Zealand has not let them feel the absence of their regular captain Kane Williamson. Young Rachin has been in sensational form with the bat and on Monday with the ball as well. He hit a hundred on his debut against the defending champions England and showed his class and skill on the world stage. Latham again led the team in the absence of injured Williamson. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson returned from injury to replace James Neesham.
Rachin scored 51 runs in his second match and is possibly the second-highest run-scorer so far in the marquee tournament. With his teammate Devon Conway leading the list after two matches. The Kiwis are on the verge of winning their second match of the tournament.
