India won a thrilling game against Australia in the first match of their ODI World Cup 2023, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul came out on top when India was struggling at 2/3 chasing a total of 200 runs. Three India batters Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer returned to the pavilion without scoring. Kohli and Rahul played their best knock under pressure to get India home.

Both the batters were watchful at the start of their innings and started playing shots once both of them got settled in the crease. Kohli once again proved why he is the best batter in the world while chasing a target. He along with Rahul stitched a 165-run partnership. The former Indian skipper scored 85 runs off 116 balls before eventually getting dismissed by Josh Hazelwood when 30 runs were required.

Rahul stayed unbeaten at 97 runs off 115 balls he finished the game off in style with a six. Ahead of their clash against Afghanistan, on Wednesday, at the Arun Jaitely Stadium. The two batters had a candid chat about the innings and the World Cup matches ahead.

I just came and sat when I came out of the shower: KL Rahul

Rahul said, "Tired I would not lie. The only chat after 50-70 runs of the partnership was, let us conserve our energy, let us not run the twos. Once we hit it in the gaps, our instincts took over and we started running. It was nice to start the WC with a win. I never expected it. You do lose a couple of wickets when the ball is doing something."

"But not like that. It still takes four or five overs, not 1.5 or two overs. I just came and sat when I came out of the shower. When Ishan got out, I rushed to get taped and started wearing my pads. Then Rohit got out, Shreyas too. With Shreyas, I thought he would bat at least two overs. But he was out on the first or second ball."
