India defeated Australia by six wickets on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, in their ODI World Cup 2023 clash. Team India spinners made sure that the five-time World Champions never got into the game. In a thrilling encounter, India came out victorious with runs from the bat of former India skipper Virat Kohli and wicket-keeper KL Rahul. Both the batters looked in firm control after India was struggling at 2/3 in the early stages of the game.
Whenever the former India skipper plays there is something or the other records he creates. The 34-year-old batter picked up a sharp catch at the first slip of Jasprit Bumrah's ball to dismiss the Australian opener, Mitchell Marsh. He was awarded a gold medal he was the top fielder in the outfield. Apart from fielding, Kohli again stepped up under pressure and took Team India to par in a low-scoring run chase. Australia struggled to score runs on the slow pitch of Chennai. Smith was the highest run scorer with 46 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravichandran Ashwin spun a web around the Australian batters and they looked clueless. Jadeja was the highest wicket-taker as the spinner picked up three wickets. David Warner and Smith only made a 69-run partnership off 85 balls. The former scored 41 runs and was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. They were reduced to 140/7 at one stage.
