India is set to begin their World Cup campaign against Australia at the M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Fans are excited to see their favourite players take on the field for the first time in this marquee event. So far, the matches have been full of rollercoaster rides, with teams winning by big margins in their first matches. Rain can play a spoilsport in India's first match as there is 20% rain predicted in Chennai, and the weather will be partially cloudy.
Former India skipper, Virat Kohli is all set to feature in his 4th ODI World Cup. He first featured in the 2011 edition, which he won under the leadership of MS Dhoni. He would be on the verge of going past Anil Kumble in an elite list of World Cup players. The fans expect the veteran batter to lead the team to their third World Cup at home.
Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble have 14 catches each for India in World Cups. While Kumble took 18 matches to hit the mark, Kohli had done in 26. The 34-year-old is working hard in the nets going for some extra time in the net sessions to give out his best on Sunday against the mighty Aussies.
India eye for their third World Cup
India will be eyeing their second World Cup win at home since 2011. The Men in Blue have not won any major trophies since 2013. They have lost two back-to-back semi-finals in 2015 and 2019. Rohit Sharma and his men will be hoping to start their campaign with a win before they travel to Delhi for their game against Afghanistan, on October 11.
Team India did not get to play both of their warm-up fixtures due to persistent rain at both venues. Though they are carrying good form as they won the Asia Cup and won the three-match ODI series against Australia. Fans would be expecting Virat and Rohit to lead the team from the front in this match.
