Australian opener David Warner put behind the disappointment of the previous game in grand style. The 36-year-old tore the Pakistani bowling attack to shreds as he scored his 21st ODI ton in Bengaluru on Friday. It was the first century for David Warner during the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.
Pat Cummins lost the toss and saw Babar Azam decide to bowl first. The Australian skipper had exclaimed he would have done the same had he won the toss. The decision to field first came to haunt Pakistan as sloppy fielding helped Australia take firm control of the game.
There was no change in the playing XI for Australia as they went in with the same side that beat Sri Lanka. Pakistan though made one change to their team that lost against India on Saturday. Shadab Khan was dropped as leg-spin bowler Usama Mir came into the team.
David Warner’s unique celebration to mark his century
The Australian team came into the game needing a win to stay alive in the tournament. David Warner was on ten when he was dropped by Usama Mir off Shaheen Shah Afridi. That changed the entire tone of the game as the Pakistani team was put to the test.
David Warner and Mitchell Marsh added 259 runs for the first wicket in just under 34 overs. The first to get to the triple-figure mark was David Warner when he hit Mohammad Nawaz down the ground for a single.
The 36-year-old peeled off his helmet and jumped up high in the air. What Warner did next sent the crowd into raptures. The Australian opener did the iconic Pushpa pose and that evoked huge cheers from the crowd.

Mitchell Marsh marked his 32nd birthday on Friday in grand style. The right-handed- batting all-rounder scored career best 121 runs from just 108 balls. Marsh hit 10 fours and 9 huge sixes as he went past his previous ODI-best score of 116 versus India.
Shaheen Afridi got Pakistan the breakthrough when he had Marsh caught by Usama Mir. The Bengaluru crowd let out a huge roar as Glenn Maxwell came out to bat at number 3. That innings lasted just one ball as Maxwell mistimed the shot only to be caught by Babar Azam for a first ball duck.
