Afghanistan earned a famous win over England by 69 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023, on Sunday at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, New Delhi. It was their second win in the ODI World Cup history. They first won in 2015 against Scotland in Australia. The Afghans have ended their 14-match losing streak in the marquee tournament. England have previously suffered upsets in the World Cups. They have jumped to the sixth spot in the points table.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan picked three wickets each as they spun their web against the English batters. The former was named as the man of the match for his sensational bowling display against them. His best wicket was Joe Root when he bowled him with a sensational delivery. After the match, Mujeeb was given a hug by a young Afghanistan fan. A child came toward the spinner and he got emotional and started crying as he gave a tight hug to the bowler.
On Sunday, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake killed two people in western Afghanistan where tremors have claimed at least 1,000 lives in the last weeks. Mujeeb dedicated his Player of the Match award to the victims of the earthquake. Rashid also spoke about the victims and both of them believe it is a tough loss for them.

-Rashid Khan is a moderate Muslim.
-That’s why we Indians always support Afghanistan because they respect us and never talk ill about India.
This proves Indian don’t hate all Muslims.#AFGvsENG #WorldCup2023… pic.twitter.com/LD0mtUrJXK
Very proud moment to be here in the World Cup and beating the champions: Mujeeb Ur Rahman
After the match, Mujeeb said, "Very proud moment to be here in the World Cup and beating the champions. It’s a great achievement for the whole team, we worked hard for this day. We beat such a big team. It was a wonderful performance from the bowlers and the batters. As a spinner, it’s pretty hard to bowl in the powerplay, you have only two fielders outside."
"This is for the people back home who have been affected by the earthquake. As players and as a team, I wanted to dedicate my award to them."
