The 11th match of the Women’s T20 League was played between Delhi and Bangalore at the DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, March 13, 2023. The Smriti Mandhana-led team came to the match after four back-to-back losses and now they need to win all their remaining matches to stay alive in the tournament.

Talking about the match, the Delhi-based franchise won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangalore's innings started with Mandhana’s another failure as she departed after scoring just 8 runs. Later, Sophie Devine and Ellyse Perry steadied the innings but Perry accelerated the scoreboard with the major contribution of an unbeaten 67 runs.

She was dropped on 29 runs by Shikha Pandey and then Perry made the Delhi side pay for it. Richa Ghosh also contributed to the scoreboard with a superb cameo of 37 from 16 balls and the duo added 74 in quick time. That partnership rescued Bangalore as they put in a fighting total of 150 runs. Pandey was the star bowler as she picked up 3 wickets in her 4 overs.

Chasing the target, Delhi didn’t have a great start as they lost their destructive opener Shafali Verma in the very first over of the 2nd innings. Alice Capsey came to bat at no.3 and played a handy knock of 38 runs off 24 deliveries which included 8 fours. However, the Delhi-based franchise suffered a huge blow when they lost their captain Meg Lanning in the 9th and the equation comes to 70/3.

After which, Jemimah Rodrigues displayed a brilliant responsible batting display as she smashed 32 runs off 28 balls which included 3 fours. But when Rodrigues top-edged a sweep and got caught behind, the game was in the balance but Kapp and Jonassen showed no nerves as they steered their side home as they won the match by 6 wickets.

Mandhana talked about the match in the post-match conference and said, “Really good effort by our bowlers to take it till the 20th over. Definitely a lot of improvements but a lot of things to work on still. The partnership got us into the game, they both batted brilliantly.”
