With less than 100 days to the competition, which is slated to take place in India in October-November of this year, all the venues for the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2023 will be upgraded. Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Dharamsala, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Kolkata will each host a World Cup match. The warm-up matches will take place in stadiums in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati.
Notably, each stadium would get INR 50 crore to upgrade its facilities before the main event. The 10 World Cup venues would each receive more than INR 500 crore from the Indian Cricket Board. Four league stage games as well as the semifinal contest will be played at Mumbai's venerable Wankhede Stadium. New LED lighting will be installed in the stadium, and the corporate boxes and restrooms will be renovated.
Every stadium has various requirements. New LED lights are being installed at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, and the square has been excavated to make room for two red-soil soccer fields. The fields in Lucknow, which will host India's game against England, will be redone after receiving a lot of criticism during the IPL. The seating and restrooms at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium are being renovated.
“We re-laid the whole surface of the stadium and we did a makeover of VVIP and hospitality boxes too. We hired the best expert for the relaying process. We wanted to ensure we have good drainage facilities and got grass from abroad. We changed a few seats and painted the stands. There was a leakage problem, we fixed that too. “We wanted to ensure that after rain, the game should start as soon as possible.” Arun Dhumal, an HPCA member told The Indian Express.
Here are some of the tweets from the fans who humorously trolled the Indian Cricket Board:

Utter shame. India have have population of 125cr if instead BCCI domates the money to common people every individual will recieve 0.35 cr. which is 35lakh.

I will request @BCCI @JayShah sir to oversee that the funds being allocated are being used for the specific purpose only & not being pocketed by State Association Members.

Make Verification teams if possible that would visit stadiums to check funds are being utilised as per req.
don't you think that's too late now to upgrade? let's take example of dharmshala it doesn't have stands... can they build in 4 months ? this should have been done 18 months back !

Stadium management people must already be strategising how to divide the money amongst them.
— Anil Sharma (@Anilisys) June 30, 2023
Over invoicing should be checked, funds allocated should be verified by an Independent BCCI committee, washrooms, drinking water spectator comfort, pitch & outfeild equipment should be upgraded

Some of the other venues that are going through renovations are; The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune will get a new temporary cover, while the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala will get an outfield with imported grass. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will be developing an enhanced ticketing system and better restrooms in the meantime.
