The Sri Lankan Board's decision to declare its interest in hosting the entire Asia Cup has angered the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who, as a result, declined to play an ODI bilateral series there. According to some reports from the PCB, the SLC's proposal to host the entire Asia Cup, in contrast to Najam Sethi's "Hybrid Model," which called for four matches to be conducted in Pakistan, has strained relations between the PCB and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

"An example of the increasingly strained relations between the two boards emerged after the PCB turned down a proposal by the Lankans to play a few One-Day International matches next month in Sri Lanka. It is a clear indication that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board stepping in to offer to host the Asia Cup in September when it is Pakistan's turn to host the regional event at home," a PCB source was quoted as saying.

Is Najam Sethi jealous of the Indian Cricket Board's success?

Sethi had anticipated that the friendly neighbours of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan would persuade the Indian Cricket Board and other members of the Asian Cricket Council to agree to his idea and play three to four games in Pakistan before transferring the tournament abroad. According to the source, Sethi was upset over recent events, especially after some board members visited India for the IPL final and spoke with the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah.

“Sethi expected Sri Lanka with whom Pakistan has long had friendly relations, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan to convince the Indian Cricket Board and other Asian Cricket Council board members to go with the proposal put by Sethi and at least play three to four games in Pakistan of the Asia Cup before moving the tournament elsewhere."

“He is disappointed at the way things have panned out in recent days especially when some of these board heads went to India for the IPL final and met with the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah," the source added.
