Australian skipper Pat Cummins has refused to answer any questions about India's Mohammed Siraj, ahead of the first ODI match of the three-match ODI Series against India. The Indian pacer has recently become the No.1 ODI bowler in the Men's Rankings.
Siraj's spell against Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup has been the talk of the town for every cricket fan. He picked up his career-best ODI record of 6 for 21, with four wickets coming in one over. He dismantled the Lankan batting with his fiery spell in the final.
The pacer had a superb last couple of years by claiming the No.1 spot on the Men’s ODI Player Rankings. The 29-year-old returned to India’s ODI setup in February last year. He spent three years without playing a 50-over match at the international level. With the World Cup around the corner, he will be the one to keep an eye on the opponents.
We don't want to get to the first game (of the World Cup) under-prepared: Pat Cummins
Cummins answered in just a word when he was asked whether Australia has a special plan to tackle an in-form Siraj during the three-match ODI series starting on Friday. He said, "No". He further added, "Want to strike a balance between getting used to the conditions and getting a few wins under our belts. We don't want to get to the first game (of the World Cup) under-prepared. We want to try out a few combinations, a few different players but ideally, we have structured the combination we want to go about. As a captain, I want to get used to how to use my bowlers here. Might be a bit different to South Africa and Australia. Does the second spinner play a part? Hopefully, we'll get a few answers to that in the next few games."
The Men in Blue will have a second-string side for the first two ODIs. Skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and vice-captain Hardik Pandya rested. KL Rahul will captain the side in Rohit's absence. They will be back for the third ODI. Other side Mitchell Starc will also miss the first ODI alongside Glenn Maxwell.
