Patricio 'Pitbull' Freire the Bellator featherweight champion recently disclosed the reports surrounding the promotion's future and expressed interest in joining the UFC. He is believed to be the greatest fighter in the Bellator's history and could possibly be in a position where he could explore UFC.
Despite not having defended his Bellator featherweight championship in almost a year, Patricio 'Pitbull' has been quite active. Last New Year's Eve, he won a unanimous decision over Rizin featherweight champion Kleber Koike Erbst at the Bellator vs. Rizin event.
He failed in his defend his title to become a three-division champion this past June, losing a unanimous decision against bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis. The 36-year-old made a speedy turnaround and accepted a 154lb catchweight bout against Chihiro Suzuki at Super Rizin 2 on less than a week's notice.
I will fulfil my agreement, I will see what proposals will be on the table: Patricio 'Pitbull' Freire
During his appearance on Trocacao Franca, he would be interested in joining the UFC if Bellator is sold to the PFL, "Well, I'm 36 years old, I'm the biggest record holder in the organization I love...It looks like Bellator is really going to be taken over by another organization. I will fulfil my agreement, I will see what proposals will be on the table, but I think my career deserves a trip to the UFC."
The Brazilian mentioned that now might be the time to finally pursue a move, saying, "I don't rule out , I see it positively, I think now is the time, it's the only time. I didn't want to say goodbye to Bellator like that, but I understand the moment."
Patricio 'Pitbull' will have the option of negotiating his contract should PFL purchase the promotion or if he would be granted a release due to his great relationship with Bellator. This June, he was unsuccessful in his quest to become a three-division champion as he lost a unanimous decision to bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis.
