India's promising and young left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh will make his County Championship debut on Sunday, June 11. He will begin competing against Surrey on Sunday while representing the Kent County Cricket Club. After his outstanding performance in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia in 2022, the Kent club already confirmed the deal in March.
In the recently finished Indian Premier League 2023, the 24-year-old had a less-than-stellar performance, taking just 17 wickets in 14 games with an economy rate of 9.70. However, Arshdeep voiced his enthusiasm for the County Championship and claimed that it would help him hone his abilities, particularly in overseas conditions. He also disclosed that current India head coach Rahul Dravid told him that Kent is a great club in County history.
"I am excited to play red-ball cricket in England and continue to improve my skills in the first-class game. I look forward to performing in front of Kent’s Members and supporters; Rahul Dravid has already told me it is a Club with a great history," he said.
Arshdeep Singh will be the 4th player to play for Kent
Talking about Arshdeep's career so far, he has taken 41 wickets in 26 games at an average of 17.78 in the T20I format. The cricketer from Punjab has also played in 3 ODI matches but has failed to pick up a single wicket in the format. On the other hand, he has played 7 games of first-class cricket and has taken 25 wickets at a strike rate of 23.84.
After former India all-rounder Kanwar Shumshere Singh, current India head coach Dravid, and Indian fast bowler Navdeep Saini, Arshdeep will be the fourth Indian player to play for Kent. Kent also shared the joy over the signing of Arshdeep and expressed their satisfaction.
"We’re delighted to have a player of Arshdeep’s potential join us for five matches this Summer. He has demonstrated that he has world-class skills with the white ball, and I am very confident he will be able to put those skills to good use with the red ball in the County Championship."
