India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin won't be playing in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. He has played only played two games in the format since 2017. After the Champions Trophy 2017 final, Ashwin was let go from the 50-over setup alongside Ravindra Jadeja. Two years later, the latter made his comeback and is set to feature in the World Cup. On the other hand, the two-time World Champion, Ashwin played only two games last year.

Currently, the right-arm spinner only plays Test cricket. There is no chance that Ashwin will play in the tournament. Meanwhile, in two months' time, Men In Blue will host the showpiece event. A lot of teams and players have called the Rohit Sharma-led side a favorite to win the World Cup.

On the other hand, Ashwin has said the teams calling India favorites is a mind game to keep the pressure.

"Going into the ODI World Cup, Australia are one of the favourites. I know people around the world cricket will keep saying India are favourites β€” in fact, all the cricketers around the world will use this as a strategy and say India are favourites before every World event. They use this strategy to reduce the pressure on themselves and put extra pressure on us. India could well be one of the favourites, but Australia also are a powerhouse," said Ashwin.
