Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw scored the first triple-century of his First Class career in Ranji Trophy 2022-23. He achieved this feat on the second day of the match against Assam. After Shaw broke numerous batting records during his stay at the crease on Wednesday, many former greats, fans, and experts lauded the Mumbaikar for his stunning show. Among all these praises, the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah also took to Twitter to laud the youngster’s stunning show
"Another entry into the record books! What an extraordinary inning @PrithviShaw! Congratulations on hitting the second-highest Ranji Trophy score of all time. A talent with immense potential. Super proud! @BCCIdomestic," posted Shah.

Prithvi Shaw's record-breaking innings
The 23-year-old was looking set for 400. However, it wasn’t to be as he was trapped lbw by Riyan Parag. Shaw walked back, having slammed 49 fours and four sixes during the course of his innings. He smashed 379 runs off 383 deliveries and became the second-highest individual scorer in the Ranji Trophy after Bhausaheb Nimbalkar, who scored 443* for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in 1948. He also broke former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar’s 32-year-old record of 377 runs, which he made during the 1990–91 season.
However, this was Shaw’s first hundred in the Ranji Trophy this year. He had only scored 160 runs in his previous seven innings, averaging 22.85 and posting a high score of 68. Shaw has recently been left out several times from the Indian team. Despite consistently scoring in the domestic circuit, the 23-year-old has not been selected and last appeared for Team India in a T20I in July 2021.
