The Indian Cricket Board announced Team India’s squad for the upcoming T20 and ODI series against New Zealand late on Friday night. India’s star young batter Prithvi Shaw has returned to Team India after a long time. He will be making his comeback in the T20 series against New Zealand. Shaw got an opportunity to be in the Indian squad after his record-breaking innings of 379 runs in the Ranji Trophy.

Prithvi Shaw returned to the Indian team after a long gap of 26 months. The 23-year-old performed consistently well in domestic cricket during this period but he was not getting a place in Team India. However, in the Ranji Trophy, Shaw played a record-breaking inning of 379 runs against Assam and forced the selectors to give him a place in Team India. Prior to that, Prithvi Shaw also scored the most runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Following the big announcement on late Friday night, Shaw reacted to it by sharing a series of Instagram posts as stories.

“Proud of you champ @prithvishaw”, “Good luck my bro”, and “Congrats brother”, read the messages that Shaw received from friends and fans after the Indian Cricket Board announced the team for the New Zealand T20I series on Friday.

Apart from Prithvi Shaw, 29-year-old wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma will be the reserve wicket-keeper of Team India in the T20 series against New Zealand. Earlier, he also got a chance in the T20 series against Sri Lanka after Sanju Samson was injured, although Jitesh is yet to make his debut for Team India. In such a situation, speculations are being made that Jitesh can make his international debut against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, opening batter KL Rahul is all set to miss out due to personal commitments but it is well documented that he has his wedding lined up with Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty in the busy cricket season. However, he will return for the two-match Test series against Australia starting February 9 in Nagpur.
