The Mumbai Indians faced off against the Chennai Super Kings in their first home encounter of the Indian Premier League 2023 on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Riding on Ajinkya Rahane's magnificent half-century and Ravindra Jadeja's 3-wicket-haul CSK thrashed MI by seven wickets. Rahane in his innings scored 61 runs off 27 balls as he hammered the fastest fifty of the season. Meanwhile, some fans got the chance to meet CSK stalwart MS Dhoni.

Dhoni who retired from international cricket in 2020 is currently leading the CSK in the ongoing IPL. He has a massive fan base across the country. However, in a recent incident, some ground staff of Wankhede Stadium met Dhoni and had a photo session with him. Meanwhile, a couple of fans touched his feet too. The CSK skipper also met players from the opposition team and spent time with some young guns.

Watch here:

Earlier, in the game after winning the Toss Dhoni asked Mumbai to bat first. The decision went well with the team as five Times champions were troubled by CSK's spin attack. They were five down after a quick start in nine overs and eventually scored a below-par total of 158 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan scored 32 runs off 21 balls while Tim David scored 31 off 22 balls. Ravindra Jadeja was a goto bowler for CSK as he clinched three wickets.

Ajinkya Rahane led CSK to a comfortable victory

Chasing 159 was not an easy task as CSK lost opener Devon Conway in the very first over of their innings. After Conway's dismissal, Rahane went on an odd boundary-hitting binge in the powerplay. He smashed Arshad for 23 runs in the fourth over, and by the end of the powerplay, he had reached his half-century, putting Super Kings on course for a triumph.

Super Kings won their second game in a row and will be reinforced further by the arrival of Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana ahead of their home encounter against Rajasthan Royals. Mumbai, on the other hand, suffered their second consecutive defeat and is still looking for their first points of the season.
