In the second ODI against the West Indies, Indian batters once again failed to put up a show. In the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the young batting line-up failed to hold nerves and lost five wickets for just 115 runs before rain interrupted the game. Apart from opener Ishan Kishan, not a single batter looked comfortable while facing the Carrebian attack.

Another Wicketkeeper-batsman, Sanju Samson, also got a chance to play in place of Virat Kohli. However, Sanju failed to capitalise on the opportunity and got out on the cheap. He was dismissed by Yannic Cariah for just nine runs off 19 balls. His departure once again allowed Indian fans and cricket pundits to question his place in the squad.

It's worth noting that Samson, along with Axar Patel, was picked to play in the XI as skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opted out of the game. According to stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya, Rohit and Kohli are constantly playing cricket, so they have been rested. After the toss, he said, "We were looking to bat first. We want to see how much we can score on this pitch, which is a bit up and down."

"Rohit and Virat have been playing constant cricket, so they are resting in this game. They can be fresh for the third ODI. I think when you get someone out for 115, it's a good sign. Our catch was impressive, but we can improve in certain areas. Sanju Samson and Axar come in for Rohit and Virat", he further added.

Ishan Kishan continues to perform with the bat

After failing in the first game of the series, Ishan Kishan has been the best batter for India since then. He has scored back-to-back half-centuries in the last three innings. In the second ODI, he and Shubman Gill added 90 runs for the first wicket. Kishan scored 55 runs off 55 balls with the help of six fours and a six.

Meanwhile, Gill, in his innings, scored 34 runs off 49 balls with the help of five fours. He failed to convert his quick start into a big knock. Gill was dismissed by spinner Gudakesh Motie, while Kishan was dismissed by Romario Shepherd. It's worth noting that India has scored 157/7 in 35 overs as Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav are in the middle. Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel also failed to score runs.
