Former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers believes Virat Kohli is the perfect candidate for India who can play in the position of No.4 going into the 2023 Asia Cup and ODI World Cup later this year. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has impressive numbers batting at No.4.

He has batted at that position on 39 occasions. He has 1767 runs while batting there with an average of 55.21 and a strike rate of 90.66. Kohli also has seven centuries and eight half-centuries while batting at this position. That position for India has been a problem for India in the last 3-4 years.

We're still talking about who will be the No. 4 batter for India: AB de Villiers

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former RCB batter stated, "We're still talking about who will be the No. 4 batter for India. I've heard some rumours about Virat possibly taking up that position. I would be a big supporter of that."

"I think Virat is perfect for No. 4. He can put the innings together, play any kind of role in that middle order. I don't know if he would like to do that. We know he loves his No. 3 position; he's scored all his runs there, but at the end of the day, if the team needs you to do something, play a certain role, you have got to put your hand up and got for it."

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have recovered well enough to be part of the upcoming Asia Cup and that tournament may well provide further clarity as to how India is thinking about their middle-order batting options. Iyer batted for over 90 minutes in a practice match alongside Kohli on Friday. On the second day of India's Asia Cup training camp in Alur, as India chose to give their top fiv, Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Kohli, Iyer, and Rahul to provide more batting time.

He further added, "Pakistan and India are the favorites to win the Asia Cup. However, Sri Lanka have the ability to upset the bigger teams." India will face Pakistan in their Asia Cup opener on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
