India have announced their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Indian selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, has announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup in order to check out all possible options ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023.

During the Asia Cup, India will play arch-rivals Pakistan twice and both games would draw massive crowds. India will play their opener against Pakistan on September 2. Head Coach Rahul Dravid was also present during the meeting scheduled in the National capital on Monday afternoon.

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer make a comeback

India's wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul is fit and has been selected for the squad. Iyer's and Rahul's regaining fitness will be a big boost to the Indian Cricket team as the middle order has been a concern ever since the duo was sidelined due to injury.

Tilak Varma's selection is a good left-hand option in the middle order. He has impressed everyone in his debut series against West Indies. The youngster looked technically sound and showed the temperament required for the international stage.

The Rohit Sharma-led squad will try to win the Asia Cup for the seventh time. It will also be a warm-up before the World Cup. Hardik Pandya has been named as the vice-captain. Gill has 750 runs, he leads the tally for most runs in the ODIs this calendar year so far among the players who hail from teams that'll play at the World Cup.

Prasidh Krishna has made a comeback in the Ireland series. He has also been named in the squad for the Asia Cup as well. Yuzvendra Chahal has been dropped for the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup starts off on August 30 at Multan, Pakistan, with Pakistan hosting Nepal. India's opening Group A game is against Pakistan on September 2 in Pallekele, followed by a game against Nepal on September 4 in Pallekele. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka compose Group B, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage.

India squad for Asia Cup:

Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Prasidh Krishna; Reserve player: Sanju Samson.
