Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) would have not even imagined that they had won a jackpot by signing Rinku Singh in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he got the bid only after going unsold in his initial years. Rinku's performance in domestic cricket was brilliant and ever since he started playing the finisher role for KKR, and the team has witnessed many nail-biting wins.
In his brief IPL career, Rinku has played some extraordinary and breathtaking innings that have made him a cult icon. His most recent rescue innings came against Gujarat Titans in the 16th edition of IPL. KKR needed 50 from four overs and Rashid Khan's hattrick in the 17th over caused a catastrophic collapse in their chances of defeating Gujarat Titans (GT), who were chasing 205.
Rinku watched helplessly as his teammates walked to the pavilion in defeat. However the last over of Yash Dayal shook the cricket universe as Rinku ended up hitting 5 sixes in that over and took KKR to a thrilling win. No one have imagined that he would be pulling off a miracle like that. He also played brilliantly against SRH on Friday and smashed 58 runs off just 31 deliveries but couldn't take his team to victory this time.
Rinku continuing his last year's form
However, this isn't the first time he has rescued KKR after a horrible collapse. Last year, when the scoreboard read 96/3 after the 13th over against RR, KKR appeared to be in serious trouble as they attempted to chase down a tough 153 on a track that was a little bit two-paced. Then Rinku arrived, who, despite having few opportunities thus far, hasn't accomplished anything. He had the opportunity to demonstrate that he belongs at this level.
And he didn't let anyone down as he carefully selected his bowlers and overs to attack by balancing caution with restrained aggression. He destroyed Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Sen, leaving Nitish Rana standing with a score of 42 off just 23 deliveries to complete the chase.
