Indian cricketer Ruturaj Gaikwad has consistently produced many outstanding batting performances in the Indian Premier League which helped him to get a permanent spot in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) playing XI. Meanwhile, on Sunday, June 4, the Pune franchise named renowned batter Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain to guide the team in the 2023 Maharashtra Premier League. The startling sum of INR 57.80 crore was paid to Maharashtra’s own T20 League for six franchises. The franchise league supported by the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) obtained a record amount of Rs 14.80 crore for the Pune franchise, which also won the bid to secure Gaikwad as their symbol player.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was replaced by Yashavi Jaiswal for the WTC final
The tournament will start on June 15 On June 15, and all the games will take place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Ground, which is situated outside of Pune. According to MCA President Rohit Pawar, in the franchise war, the state got bids from around 20 entities. He further stated that although the management had anticipated receiving INR 18 crores from the sale of six teams, they actually earned more than triple that amount.
“We had kept a base price of INR 1 crore per year for three years for the six teams expecting a minimum value of INR 18 crore for the MPL. But we in turn received a record franchise fee of a whopping INR 57.80 crore for six teams for three years after the teams were auctioned today. We followed a completely transparent process to buy the ownership through an open bid system.” Rohit Pawar said.
Gaikwad was selected as a stand-by player for the World Test Championship final which will start on June 7. But Gaikwad decided to not go with the team due to his marriage. He is replaced by the 21-year-old left-hander opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal who has already reached England.
