India played Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final which ended with Kangaroos winning the title by 209 runs on Sunday, June 11 at the Oval in London. India have suffered back-to-back losses in the WTC final. The first loss came in 2021 which was against New Zealand at Southampton.

Meanwhile, Australia’s star speedster Mitchell Starc, who helped his team to get some crucial breakthroughs in the WTC final, has once again talked about his priority between franchise cricket and international cricket. He claims that rather than playing for a franchise cricket team solely for the money, representing his country means a lot to him. The deadly left-arm bowler played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and competed in two IPL seasons in 2014–15.

"I enjoyed it (IPL), likewise I enjoyed my time at Yorkshire 10 years ago, but Australia will always sit at the top. I don't regret any of it, money will come and go but I'm very grateful for the opportunities I've had. Over a hundred years of Test cricket and there's been less than 500 men who have played it for Australia, that in itself makes it very special to be a part of it.” Starc was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

I'd certainly love to play in the IPL again: Mitchell Starc

Starc, further, talked about the same and said that he still hopes that the upcoming generation will prefer to represent their country rather than play franchise cricket. Interestingly, Starc also claimed that he’d love to play in the IPL but his long-time goal is to play for his nation. He expressed his love for playing with his teammates in the longest format.

"The traditionalist in me still hopes there is a generation of boys and girls who want to represent their country in Test cricket. But the easy money is in franchise cricket, it's the fast track to notoriety. I'd certainly love to play in the IPL again, but my goal for a long time has been to be at my best for Australia, no matter the format," Starc said.

"There's nothing I love more in cricket than to sit back with my teammates at the end of a Test win and reflect on the success we've had that week. To be able to pull on the baggy green with a lot of my close mates, guys I've grown up in the game with," he added.
