India pacer Mohammed Shami had a great game with the ball in the ongoing first ODI against Australia. Playing his first game in the last few months, he was a bit rusty to begin with. Even though Shami removed Mitchell Marsh, the right-arm pacer was having trouble maintaining his line and length. It also had something to do with the humid conditions, an uncommon phenomenon in Mohali.
Meanwhile, in the second and third spell, he found it a bit easier as the weather got cooler as the day progressed. Not to forget, the game got interrupted by the rain in the 36th over of Australia's innings. That was before Shami came back for his third spell. Meanwhile, in the second spell, the Gujarat Titans player took the big wicket of Steve Smith as the former managed to bring the ball back in.
In his last couple of overs, the two-time IPL winner took three wickets and hampered the runs at the death. He took the wickets of Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short, and Sean Abbott to complete his first five-wicket haul in India. For the first time in 16 years, an Indian pacer has taken a fifer at home. Also, this was his first fifer in ODI cricket overall.
Mohammed Shami ensures Australia reduced to an under-par score in Mohali
Meanwhile, Shami's spell has ensured that the visitors, Australia have been bowled out for 276 runs. At 248/5, the Yellow Brigade looked like getting past 290 runs. However, his three wickets in the death overs ensured a below-par total for the opposition. In reply, India is going well with 99/0 in 15 overs.
Shubman Gill has gotten to his half-century while Ruturaj Gaikwad is close to it. Both players are looking in good touch and the home side has their noses ahead in the game.

India have been pretty impressive with the ball today, especially Shami and Jadeja. Would India be tempted to look at Bumrah, Shami and Siraj all together?
