The first Test match between India and South Africa is entering its third day. Dean Elgar’s century has given the hosts a slight advantage over the visiting Indian team. Rohit Sharma and his side were bowled out for 245 in their first innings on Wednesday.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are the only bowlers who have looked threatening. The batting too has struggled in the absence of veteran stars like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane.

Veteran India player Dinesh Karthik recently spoke about the one player Rohit Sharma seems to be missing. The 38-year-old was recently in conversation with CRICBUZZ at the end of the second day’s play on Wednesday.

Dinesh Karthik laments the absence of key player

Out of favour Indian veteran Dinesh Karthik has named Mohammed Shami as the player Team India seems to be missing. The right-arm-pace has been in great form in recent times and played a key role for India during the 2023 World Cup campaign.

Speaking to CRICBUZZ this is what Karthik said “The man has grown in stature as a bowler and as leader of the pack. He is an able lieutenant to Jasprit Bumrah. You can imagine with the upright seam on this kind of pitch. I promise you, he would have gotten a few wickets. The Indian team misses him”

Mohammed Shami had to pull out of the South African tour due to an injury to his ankle. Prasidh Krishna made his Test debut and has bowled fifteen overs so far picking just a single wicket. Shardul Thakur too has proved expensive with four no-balls during his spell.

Dinesh Karthik was critical about Krishna and Thakur when he remarked “Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna are going close to 118 runs from their 27 overs. On the other hand, Bumrah and Siraj are going for just 111 runs from their 31 overs. Siraj, was a tad bit expensive, especially in his final spell, but they also bowled some brilliant balls”

The RCB wicketkeeper also said “You could see every time they were on, you got the feeling that they could get a wicket or two. Whereas with Shardul or Prasidh, you had to wait for a batter to make a mistake”

Speaking about Rohit Sharma, the 38-year-old made a critical observation “It can be a bit unfair to Rohit Sharma to say he had a bad day in terms of rotating the bowlers. Did his team have a bad day? I definitely think so”.
