The 2023 ODI World Cup is fast approaching and all 10 teams are in final preparations for the marquee event. Defending champions England will face runners-up New Zealand in the curtain-raiser at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. England team led by Jos Buttler are once again favourites to win the tournament with the kind of top-class squad they have.

Here is the SWOT Analysis for Team England :

Strength - Explosive batting line-up, wide bowling options

England's biggest strength is their fiery batting line-up, which is the main factor that scares other teams when playing against the Three Lions. Any target is not safe in front of England as they have some destructive batters who can singlehandedly swing the match in their team's favour.

While Mark Wood and Adil Rashid lead their pace and spin attack, respectively, they also have a wide range of bowling options in both departments. They have Reece Topley, David Willey, Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes as fast bowling options. And for spin, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali and Joe Root.

Weakness - Injuries, lack of quality spinners

England's star pacer Jofra Archer is part of the squad as a reserve player due to his injury concerns. His absence is a huge setback for England as he was one of the key factors in their triumph in the 2019 edition. Another weakness for England is the lack of top spinners, especially when the tournament is played in the subcontinent. Although they have part-time options in Root, Livingstone and Moeen, Rashid is their only main spinner and he recently suffered cramps during a match against New Zealand.

Opportunities - Shorter boundaries, IPL experience

Cricket stadiums in India have relatively shorter boundaries, which means that England's aggressive batters can enjoy their power-hitting prowess in the tournament. Coming in as a confident unit with the tag of 'defending champions', they have several players who have played a lot in Indian conditions in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Skipper Buttler, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Mark Wood, and Sam Curran are some of the players who have enjoyed playing in India over the years.

Threats - Tackling Indian spin attack and their home support

There is no doubt that England has aggressive batters and more batting depth. But in the Indian subcontinent, the ball spins more, and the Men in Blue will take more advantage of it with their quality spin attack. Apart from England, hosts India are one of the other teams likely to win the tournament. England must overcome this challenge if they want to retain the title.
