India's opening batter, Shubman Gill, did not have good performances in the first three matches of the T20I series against the West Indies. He scored 77 runs in 47 balls, which included 3 fours and 5 huge sixes. Gill was at his fluent best in the fourth T20I in Florida.

Chasing 179, the young duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman was involved in a mammoth 165-run partnership for the opening wicket. As a result, India chased a target of 179 runs without breaking a sweat. While the right-hander, Gill performed well in the second match, his previous performances came into question. In fact, the 23-year-old did not even cross 20 runs in three games.

He scored only three runs in nine deliveries in the first game. In the second match, the 2018 U19 World Cup winner managed seven runs. In the third T20I, Gill handed over his wicket after scoring 6 runs in 11 deliveries. This makes a combined total of 16 runs in 29 deliveries, which was not great for a player of his class.

'Important to go to your basics' - Shubman Gill

Speaking about the same in the post-match show with Arshdeep, Gill said “It is important to go to your basics. You have to identify whether you are making any mistakes. I felt I was not making a mistake in any of the three matches. But I could not convert my starts,” and analyzed his mistakes.

“T20 format is like that. When you have 3-4 matches where a good shot is caught by the fielder, and you have to eye for making quick runs, you do not have time to think much. You just look at what your template was when you were consistently scoring runs” said Gill to Arshdeep Singh and hoped of performing well and maintaining consistency in the upcoming days.
