Ahead of their encounter against Bangalore on April 2, Mumbai has announced their replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah. The team has been suffering from injuries and has lost two players due to it. However, ahead of their opening encounter, Mumbai has named Sandeep Warrier as the replacement for Bumrah. Notably, they are yet to zero in a foreign pacer to replace injured Jhye Richardson.
Sandeep Warrier, who plays for Tamil Nadu domestic team, has represented India in internationals too. He had a decent run with the bowl in the domestic cricket, clinching 62 wickets in 68 T20s with an economy rate of less than 7.5. The right-arm pacer has represented Bangalore and Kolkata franchises in the Indian T20 League.
His recent form also supports his inclusion in the team as he has clinched six wickets in the last four List A games. Warrier also clinched 27 wickets in the last six games for Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy.
Notably, Jasprit Bumrah is currently suffering from a back injury. His injury has forced him to miss some important tournaments in the last few months including the 20-20 World Cup, Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and Indian T20 League. He has, reportedly, been recovering at National Cricket Academy in a bid to be fully fit for the 50-over World Cup.
Will Mumbai miss Jasprit Bumrah this season?
Mumbai are set to lock horns against Bangalore on April 2 to start its campaign. The five-time champions are surely going to miss Jasprit Bumrah in the death overs as they lack a good pacer, who can compliment Archer at the death. Sandeep Warier has been phenomenal in domestic cricket and the team will expect him to replicate the same in the biggest T20 League.
In the pre-season Press conference, Rohit said,
"We have been talking about Bumrah. He is a big miss. Jasprit Bumrah's role was quite important for Mumbai Indians, it's a big shoe to fill. But it gives...an opportunity to the youngsters in the team to showcase their talent. We have a couple of guys who have been with this team for the last few years. They are very much ready to take the centerstage and hopefully (we) can blood in some youngsters.”
Meanwhile, fans have reacted to Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement. A Twitter user said, “Mumbai ke scouting ka koi jawab nhi.”
