India played their arch-rivals Pakistan in their first match of the ongoing Asia Cup. The match was washed out due to rain. On Sunday, they faced off against each other in the Super 4 stage of the continental event, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. For this match, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had already prepared for a reserve day.

On Sunday, being asked to bat first, Rohit Sharma and Co were off to a flyer, as bot the openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitched an opening stand of 121 runs. They both went back to the pavilion in the simultaneous overs. After that, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul who are unbeaten had to stop due to rain. India is now 147/2 at the end of 24.1 overs.

Rain delays reserve day at Colombo

The reserve day start has been delayed due to heavy rain. The entire ground is covered. The ground staff have done a great job, getting the covers on. Meanwhile, the players from the two sides are waiting in the dressing room. It seems they got down to train when the fresh spell of showers began. Despite the clear skies, the rain came just before 90 minutes into the match. The chances of the match seeing another washout chances are large. It would be slightly difficult for the groundsmen to clear the ground ahead of the encounter.

For a result of the match, there must be at least a 20-over game. In the case of a 20-over contest, Pakistan will be asked to chase around 181 runs to win the game. In case the match sees rain play its part the entire day, the match will abandoned. India is scheduled to face Sri Lanka next on 12th September. This would mean Rohit Sharma's team will play cricket for 3 consecutive days. In case of a loss or another washout against Sri Lanka, the Indian team will be under pressure to qualify for the finals. They still have two more games left. The Men in Blue will play their last game against Bangladesh on September 15.
