Even though Virat Kohli openly acknowledged that he made a lot of mistakes while serving as captain, he insisted that his intentions were always good. Although Kohli captained India to multiple historic victories in the bilateral series, he came under fire for failing to take home an Apex Cricket Council trophy.
During his time with the Indian team, he revolutionised Indian cricket's approach to fitness and achieved great things in red-ball cricket, which included the first-ever Test series victory on Australian soil. Under Kohli's leadership, the Asian superpowers played a combative style of cricket in the Test matches.
Following the 2021 T20 World Cup, Kohli resigned as India's T20I captain. He was also relieved of his ODI captaincy because the selectors preferred having one captain for all white-ball competitions. The Test captaincy was also given up by the master batsman in early 2022 following the South Africa series.
I have no shame in accepting that I have made many mistakes: Virat Kohli
In a segment of PUMA's Let There Be Sport documentary series, Kohli claimed that as the captain of the Indian team, he never had any self-serving intentions. He acknowledged that he really did make mistakes while in office, which is inevitable in any game. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore and Indian Team skipper spoke about how he might have made some mistakes during his captaincy tenure and had no shame in admitting it
He said, “Hundred per cent. So I have no shame in accepting that I have made many mistakes when I was the captain. But the one thing I know, for sure, that I never did anything for my own selfish motives is that I can take guarantee of that from the one to the last day. I have not done anything for myself. I just had one goal to take the team ahead. I can totally accept if I have taken the decisions correctly or not. I can totally accept it, you make mistakes like you make errors when you get out, that’s a failure. Failures will keep happening but the intent was never in the wrong, please. So I can absolutely take guarantee of that. Till that is in its right place, you will make mistakes, but you will learn from that as I said, you will not then start shining away from making things."
Fans react to Virat Kohli's statement that he made many mistakes as captain:-
Virat Kohli (in Hotstar) said "I have no shame in accepting that I have made many mistakes when I was captain but never did anything for my own selfish motives - my goal was to take the team forward, failures will happen but intent was never in the wrong place".

2019WC- Settled Rayudu was removed from No.4 & picked 3D Shankar.

When opener Shikhar got injured you picked Debutant WK middle order batter Pant who was the 3rd WK in the playing 11 in the S/F.
Karthik hardly plays 20 balls in an innings in ODI and in S/F you made him bat at 5.
Had he won the 2019 WC it would have been a totally different story. Intent, aggression is all well and good but ultimately as captain winning the big trophies is what matters the worst and sadly it didn't work in your tenure, there is no shame in that.

He did his best, gave 200% in captaincy.. he was honest everytime he was on the field.. but media and people put so much pressure on him.. he is also a human had to make mistakes at the end of his tenure.. but the brand team played raised the bar for upcoming teams when they play

One of the biggest mistake was opting to field 1st in Championship trophy finals even though coach wanted the team to bat 1st, also he was a very unlucky captain! He lost many important tosses, i still remember Virat lost 5 straight toss vs Eng (2018 test series)

He kept Ashwin out of Test team for his own ulterior motives, now trying to be a saint.
