The Pat Cummins-led Australian side beat Pakistan by a massive margin to win the first Test match in Perth. The game ended in four days as the home team won the game by 360 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. It was an all-round performance by Australia as the team took a break for Christmas.

It was a tough initiation for Shan Masood, who was leading his national side for the first time. None of the batters could put up a fight as Pakistan was bowled out for just 89 runs while chasing 450 runs to win.

Nathan Lyon created history as he became the third Australian and 8th bowler overall to claim 500 test wickets. The 36-year-old was making his comeback to cricket after getting injured during the Lord’s Test versus England.

Australia brushes aside Pakistan to win the 1st Test Match –

The Australians ended day two with Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith as the batters at the stumps. Early on day four, Khurram Shahzad got the first wicket of the day when he trapped Steve Smith LBW out for 45. Travis Head came out and scored 14 runs before he fell to Aamir Jamal.

Mitchell Marsh went after the Pakistani bowlers to score 63 not out from 68 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Usman Khawaja who turns 37 on Monday was denied an early birthday gift by Shaheen Shah Afridi. The Australian opener was out for 90 from 190 balls and this brought a prompt declaration from the Aussie skipper.

Mitchell Starc began the damage by dismissing Abdullah Shafique for 2, Josh Hazlewood then got Shan Masood early. Imam-Ul-Haq was out for 10 when he was out LBW to Mitchell Starc. There were more problems for Pakistan when Babar Azam was out 14 caught by Alex Carey off Cummins.

Saud Shakeel was the top scorer for Pakistan with 24 runs but found no support from the other side. With the result all but certain the only interest was to see if Nathan Lyon can get to his landmark on Sunday. The moment came when Faheem Ashraf was out LBW for 5, this was followed by Aamir Jamal being bowled by Lyon to make it wicket number 501.
