Australia defeated West Indies by 10 wickets in the first Test on Thursday, at the Adelaide Oval. The hosts after winning the toss elected to bowl first. The Windies were playing with a new side with seven uncapped players. Being put into bat first the visitors were bowled out for 188 runs, with Kirk McKenzie scoring a fifty and Shamar Joseph was the second-highest run-getter for the side. The latter along with Kemar Roach stitched a partnership of 55 runs for the last wicket.

Coming into bat the Aussies were restricted to 283 runs. Steve Smith who had opened for the first time in the longest format of the game did not have a good outing as he was the first one to be dismissed by Joseph for 12 runs. The debutant had a dream start as his second wicket was Marnus Labuschagne. The pacer went on to take a five-wicket haul in debut against the Kangaroos.

But Travis Head was once again the saviour for the hosts as he played a counter-attacking knock of 119 runs off 134 balls, helping the Aussies go past the 250-run mark. The left-handed batter is in sensational form across formats for the side, and he showed his class again.

Hazelwood shines for the Kangaroos

Having a lead of 95 runs in the first innings the Aussie pace attack of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins came all guns blazing in the second innings against the Windies. Hazelwood picked another five-wicket haul for the side. As they were struggling to score a minimum of 100 runs when they were 94/9 from there they scored 120/10 before being bowled out and setting a target of 26 runs.

The hosts chased down the target easily with 10 wickets in hand and got the 1-0 lead in the 2-match test series. The second and final Test begins in Brisbane on Thursday. Kraigg Braithwaite's side will be eager to at least draw the series by winning the second game at the iconic Gabba stadium.
