Deepti Sharma picked 5/7 from 5.3 overs in the one-off test against England in Mumbai on Friday. The 26-year-old helped India take the early advantage on the second day as Harmanpreet Kaur and her side took a 292-run lead over the visitors.

India had ended day 1 at 410/7 from 94 overs of play at the DY Patil Stadium in Nerul. When stumps were drawn Deepti Sharma was batting on 60 along with Pooja Vastrakar who was on 4.

England took just 10 overs as they bowled out India early on Friday. The English eves must have expected a long batting day but Indian bowlers had other ideas. It was Deepti Sharma who had the English batters tangled in her web of spin.

England were bowled out for just 136 thanks to Deepti Sharma taking 5/7 with the ball. The 26-year-old got her fifer in just 5.3 overs to help India with a huge lead of 292 runs in the 1st innings.

Renuka Singh got India going when she went past the defence of Dunkley to bowl her out for 11. Pooja Vastrakar struck next when she had Heather Knight out LBW for 11. Beaumont was run out after scoring 10 to leave England at 79/3.

From here on the English batters lost their last 7 wickets for just 57 runs. Danielle Wyatt became Deepti Sharma’s first wicket caught by Jemimah Rodrigues for 19. This was followed by Amy Jones offering a simple catch to Shafali Varma for 12.

Sophie Ecclestone saw her stumps disturbed for a second ball duck thanks to Deepti Sharma. Meanwhile, Sneh Rana got the wicket of Natalie Sciver Brunt for 59 to leave the visiting side in big trouble. Kate Cross and Lauren Filer then fell in quick succession to give the Indian bowler a memorable fifer.

Armed with a lead of 292, Indian openers began well and went after English bowling just like the 1st innings. 61 runs came in just 12.5 overs before Smriti Mandhana was out for 26 off 29 balls with 3 fours and a six. Shafali Varma kept the scoreboard ticking at the other end with her aggressive brand of cricket. England bowlers looked short of ideas as the Indian eves have taken a huge step in winning just their 6th test match in women’s cricket history.
