After defeating Irene Aldana to win the women's bantamweight championship at UFC 289 in Vancouver on Saturday, Nunes declared her retirement. The perhaps greatest female fighter in history, Amanda Nunes, has the distinction of retiring as a two-division champion while still in possession of the featherweight title. At UFC 289, The Champ-Champ defeated Aldana, ending her second reign as the women's bantamweight champion of the UFC.

With each round that went by, Nunes got stronger while the competitor, who is Mexican, grew weaker. Nunes successfully combined wrestling, boxing, and kicks. She received two 10-8 scorecards on one judge's sheet after landing hard strikes in Round 4 and putting on a one-sided wrestling show in Round 5. In the end, the scores were 50-44, 50-44, and 50-43.

Amanda Nunes retires as the most productive female fighter in MMA history

As one of the greatest fighters, regardless of gender, Nunes retires as the most productive woman in MMA history. She twice won the UFC women's bantamweight title and once took home the women's featherweight crown. Ronda Rousey, Cris Cyborg, Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, and Valentina Shevchenko (twice) were among the legends of the sport that Nunes vanquished. She leaves the pro game with a 23-5 record.

Brazil's UFC fans are now without a world champion due to Nunes' departure from the organisation. To pass the torch from her to her fellow Brazilian competitors, Nunes issued a challenge. "Fighters from Brazil, get your sh*t together!" In her post-fight interview, Nunes remarked. "I have faith in you!" Before UFC 289, Mexico was on an impressive run. In 2023, Mexican-born athletes Yair Rodriguez, Alexa Grasso, and Brandon Moreno all won UFC titles. The terrible performance by Aldana ended that run.

Charles Oliveira reminded everyone of why he is a former champion and a rising challenger once more elsewhere on the card. Beneil Dariush was eliminated by Oliveira in the first round of their co-main event, setting up a rematch with Islam Makhachev, who had previously dethroned him as lightweight champion. Oliveira is likely to have the opportunity to make amends in his subsequent appearance after going on an extraordinary run himself that included numerous significant victories.
