The internal dispute in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has once again come to the fore as Najam Sethi officially resigned from his role as the chairman of the cricket board and withdrew from the running to lead the PCB, therefore Zaka Ashraf is now expected to be named the next chairman of the board.

Since December of last year, Sethi had been serving as the chair of an interim management committee that was in charge of the board's operations. This interim committee's term was set to expire on June 21. However, there is no official confirmation but Sethi took to Twitter and informed everyone that he won’t be a candidate for the chairmanship of PCB.

"Salaam everyone! I don't want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty are not good for PCB. Under the circumstances, I am not a candidate for the chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to all stakeholders," Sethi wrote on Twitter.

Will Ashraf be able to resolve PCB's multiple disputes?

Before Sethi, Ramiz Raja was the head of PCB and during his tenure, Pakistan were involved in multiple troubles whether it was a clash with other country’s cricket board or a conflict with their own people due to some unwanted players selection which made them lose many matches. However, after a lot of criticism, Raja decided to resign.

After this, Sethi started serving as an interim chairman in December 2022 and it looked like he will reduce the problem for the board. But that didn’t happen as PCB was then involved in a dispute with the Indian cricket board which is the richest cricket board in the world. Pakistan was supposed to host the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup, but India refused to travel to Pakistan for political and security reasons.

And then, Pakistan also decided not to travel to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup. The war continued for almost 6 months, however, now, it seems that it's over as Asia Cup is set to take place in a hybrid model and Pakistan have also agreed to take part in the World Cup as well. It’d be interesting to see how Ashraf will be working as the PCB chief.
