'Unique lagna h isliye windies se haar gaye' - Fans lash out as West Indies defeat India by 8 wickets in 5th T20I, win series 3-2

In the series decider, the West Indies won the all-important fifth T20 match by eight wickets at  Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida. It is indeed a historic win as they won the series 3-2. It is also the first T20I series defeat for India in 25 months. After winning the toss, the India team elected to opt match on the same ground in which the team won their last game yesterday.

The Indian team did not have the best possible start to the match as the hero of the previous match, Yashasvi Jaiswal (5) fell in the very first over of the match. Jaiswal’s partner in crime from the previous game, Shubman Gill (9) to followed the roads of his opening partner and perished to Akeal Hosein in a bizarre LBW decision which was not out if the Indian batter opted for DRS.

Tilak Varma (27) and Suryakumar Kumar (SKY) tried to steady the ship of Indian batting but the former fell trying up the scoring rate. SKY was the only silver lining for the Indian team who batted superbly in the middle and played a crucial knock of 61 runs off just 45 deliveries with four boundaries and six monstrous sixes. The skipper Hardik Pandya (14), as well as Sanju Samson (13), failed to convert the starts they got.

Nicholas Pooran and Brandon King starred in Windies' chase

In reply to a rail-curtailed match, the West Indies team also did not have the start that they would have liked as Kyle Mayers (10) was sent packing by Arshdeep Singh in the second over of the match. But in walked Nicolas Pooran, and he, along with Brandon King, stitched together a winning partnership of 107 runs off just 72 deliveries to see West Indies home.

King smashed a match-winning innings of 85 runs in just 55 deliveries with five boundaries and majestic six sixes. Pooran too looked into fine tune as he has so often in the series. The star left-hand batter smashed 47 runs off just 35 deliveries along with one boundary and four sixes. But once again rain spoilt the fun for the West Indies as the game was 15 minutes or so but after the resumption of play, Tilak Varma got the wicket of Pooran but was too late as Shai Hope (22) along with King sealed the chase for the West Indies.
