'Virat aur Rohit ke bina kuch nahi hoga inka' - Fans react as West Indies beat India by 4 runs in first T20I

On Thursday, August 3, the first match of the T20I series between India and West Indies took place at Trinidad's Brian Lara Stadium. The Men in Blue were feeling confident after winning the third and final game of the ODI series, resulting in a 2-1 victory in India's favour.

Unfortunately, it was not to be the case in the first T20I as West Indies defeated India by 4 runs in what was a below-par run chase for the Indian team. After winning the toss, West Indies decided to bat first and posted a below-par total of 149 runs on the back of some terrific spin bowling as well as death bowling from the Indian bowlers. Restricting the star-studded West Indies lineup to a score of 149 runs was indeed a good task from Indian bowlers.

Openers did not give India the ideal start

In reply to the modest total, India did not have a positive start as both the openers, Shubman Gill (3) and Ishan Kishan (6) fail to make their impact in the game. After a poor start, Tilak Verma (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (21) somehow combined to stitch a quickfire partnership of 39 runs before Suryakumar was dismissed to a stunning catch from Shimron Hetmyer. Tilak Verma also soon followed leaving India reeling at 77/4 in 11 overs.

Then skipper Hardik Pandya (19) and Sanju Sanson (12) somehow combined together in order to take India across the line but a double wicket maiden from Jason Holder pretty much sealed the deal for the host. Axar Patel tried to give the fans some glimmers of hope but he also perished to the bowling Obed McCoy.

All in all, it was a pretty concerning batting display from the Indian batters and it would have certainly sent alarming bells to the team management as the likes of Gill, Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Samson, and the skipper Hardik are all in the scene of things for the upcoming ODI World Cup which is scheduled to take place in just over two months from now.
