Former Indian cricket team captain and the modern-day great Virat Kohli is in tremendous in the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League as in 12 matches he has already scored more than 400 runs at a brilliant average of 39.82. Kohli was suffering from his poor form until the 2022 Asia Cup where he broke his century drought against Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, bad news has come for Kohli’s fans as he has slipped to the 8th rank in the latest ODI rankings of the world without even playing a single ODI match in the last two months. Ireland’s brilliant middle-order batter Harry Tector has replaced him and jumped to the 7th spot after his outstanding knock of 140 runs against Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI match, he was also the highest run-scorer in that series with 206 runs.

The more runs he gets for us, the better place we're going to be: Andy Balbirnie

The 23-year-old will get the chance to further improve his ranking as Ireland are set to take part in the Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe during June and July and the Irish skipper Andy Balbirnie believes the sky is the limit for the youngster. He also said that the more runs he scores, the more it will benefit the whole team.

"He's (Tector) just got all the attributes to go on and be one of the greats of Irish cricket and I hope that we can help him on his way, and he continues to put in scores for us. The more runs he gets for us, the better place we're going to be." Balbirnie was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Tector’s 7th place is also the best for Ireland with the bat. His new rating of 722 points is the highest an Ireland male batter has ever achieved in ODI cricket. Eoin Morgan reached 712 in 2019 but by that time he was playing for England. In terms of an exclusively Ireland player, the highest was Paul Stirling who reached 697 points in June 2021.
