The Cricket Governing Body revealed the men’s T20I Team of the year 2022 on Monday, January 23. India’s premium batter Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya were named in the side while Jos Buttler, who led England to victory in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, was chosen as the side's captain. Buttler also doubled up as the wicketkeeper of the side.
Kohli was back to his best form in the shortest format last year, scoring 276 runs in the five matches he played in Asia Cup 2022 before taking that form into the 20-20 World cup and playing one of the greatest T20I knock ever in the group match against Pakistan. He also ended his century drought with the help of a hundred against Afghanistan which came in the Asia Cup fixture.
Suryakumar too had a sensational 2022 in the T20 format as he became only the second batter to score over 1000 runs in a calendar year. He was the highest run-scorer in T20Is in 2022, scoring 1164 runs including 2 centuries and 9 half-centuries. The batter recorded a strike rate of 187.43 to find a place in the side. Allrounder Pandya also had a great year in which he scored 607 runs while also picking up 20 wickets in the shortest format. That was his best year in the Indian colors.
Four Indians scalped named in the Women's T20I Team of the year 2022
Talking about the Women’s T20I team of the year 2022, four Indian players were able to find a place in the side. Smriti Mandhana is one of them, she had a wonderful calendar year in the format, scoring 594 runs at a strike rate of 133.48, with five half-centuries in 21 innings, including one in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup in October against Sri Lanka. The other three cricketers are Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, and Renuka Singh.
Deepti finished 2022 as the third-highest wicket-taker with 29 dismissals at an economy rate of just under run-a-ball. She also scored 370 runs at a strike rate of 136.02. Richa was a standout player for India in the shortest format. In 18 appearances, she accumulated 259 runs, smashing 13 sixes, at a strike rate of over 150. Renuka, meanwhile, was India’s best bowler in T20Is last year, picking 22 wickets, and is also one of the nominees for the prestigious Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the year award.
