Ravi Ashwin India vs West Indies

The Indian team's tour of West Indies has started on a good note, as the star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed the wicket of Tagenarine Chanderpaul within the first hour of the game. Ashwin has the knack of taking wickets against left-handers. Chanderpaul became yet another victim of the right arm off-spinner.

In the process, Ashwin became the first Indian bowler to dismiss a father-son duo in Test cricket. Tagenarine Chandrapaul is the son of the former West Indies cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul. The two have a similar playing style, stance, and role in the team.

The father-son duo of Chanderpaul

Shivnarine Chanderpaul was a great Test batter during his time. The Southpaw represented West Indies in 164 Test matches, the most by a player from West Indies. In 280 innings, Chanderpaul scored 11867 runs for West Indies, at an incredible average of 51.37, including 30 hundred and 66 fifty. The great batter is the second-highest run-scorer for West Indies in Test cricket behind Brian Lara.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul had a good debut series against Australia. In his very first Test, the junior Chanderpaul scored 51 and 45 respectively in Perth. In the second Test at the Adelaide Oval, Tagenarine scored 47 and 17. Against Zimbabwe, Chanderpaul registered his career-best score of 207 and remained unbeaten after facing a whopping 467 deliveries.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked his 476th Test wicket against West Indies. Currently, the ff-spinner from Tamil Nadu is the ninth highest wicket taker in the history of Test cricket. The intelligent spinner has the most scalp against a left-handed batter in Test matches. The great spinner from India averages 23.85 in the format and has an economy of just 2.76 in the longest format of the game.

Ashwin is behind Anil Kumble in the chart of leading wicket-takers for India in Test cricket. While Anil Kumble had 619 wickets from 132 Test matches at an average of 29.65, the current world number one bowler is fast approaching the former Indian captain.
