The 20th match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 was played between Dindigul Dragons and Tiruppur Tamizhans on Wednesday, June 28 at the SCF Cricket Ground, Salem. The Dragons registered a thumping 8-wicket victory over Tamizhans and retained their no. 3 spot in the points table.

Meanwhile, during the 2nd innings, A Karuppusamy was bowling the 8th over of the innings and on the 3rd ball of the over, he tried to run Shivam Singh out at the non-striker’s end. Shivam thought he was out and started walking off but the replay showed that the ball fell off Karuppusamy’s hand early and Shivam was still behind the line.

Talking about the match, Dragons’ skipper Baba Indrajith won the toss and elected to field first. Asked to bat first, Tamizhans batters displayed a decent performance with the bat and amassed a total of 173 runs after 5 wickets. However, 3 of them were run out while Saravan Kumar and R Aushik picked up a wicket each for themselves.

Brilliant partnership by Shivam Singh and Adithya Ganesh

Tamizhans’ most experienced batters Vijay Shankar and Sai Kishore stitched a 53-run stand for the 3rd wicket and helped the team to achieve a fighting total. Shankar scored 43 runs off just 27 balls, which included 2 fours and as many sixes. Chasing the target, the Dragons lost their first wicket on the score of 34 runs.

But that didn’t stop Shivam to go forward as he continued to smash boundaries and scored a brilliant half-century. He also stitched an unbeaten 105-run stand with Adithya Ganesh, who came to bat at the no. 3 position, and took the team home with a brilliant 8-wicket win with 9 balls to spare.

Shivam scored 74 runs off 57 deliveries, which included 11 fours, while Adithya scored 59 runs off just 30 balls, which included 5 fours and 3 sixes. Shivam talked about his knock and the partnership he had with Adithya in the post-match presentation.

“Plan was quite simple, we had a chat that if we negotiate the powerplay without losing wickets, we can chase it easily. Adhi bhai (Adithya Ganesh) changed the game totally, he took the pressure off me totally, was a game-changer inning from him.” Shivam was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
