MI Cape Town and Pretoria Capitals clashed against each other in the 20th match of the ongoing SA20 on Monday, January 23. The Capitals are placed on the top spot of the points table, while the Cape Town are now placed in fifth place after they lost this match by 52 runs.

During the second innings, Cape Town were 49-1 after seven overs when Adil Rashid came on to bowl against his compatriot Sam Curran. The star allrounder pulled the first ball of the over through mid-wicket, before Rashid’s next ball which was slower and flat, yet it turned at an absurd angle. It grew on Curran, who already committed to a cut shot, and came too close to him to be able to get the ball away. It also kept a bit low, ruling out any chance of a lucky edge down to the third man, and crashed onto the middle stump. Curran walked back for an 18-ball 22.

A clinical all-round performance by the Capitals

Talking about the match, asked to bat first, Pretoria started really well as the openers Kusal Mendis and Will Jacks put up an 88-run stand for the first wicket. Given the start the Pretoria Capitals got off to, they should have posted a much bigger total, but it has been an impressive comeback by Cape Town following the opening partnership.

Jacks was the highest scorer for the Capitals as he scored 62 runs off just 25 deliveries which included 5 fours and 5 sixes. Rashid Khan took three wickets, and Jofra Archer too played a crucial role by grabbing three wickets.

Chasing a big total, Cape Town needed a power-packed start but they lost Ryan Rickelton early. Curran sizzled with a few big blows but got a ripper from Rashid. Dewald Brevis was holding fort nicely with a superb 46-run knock but was deceived by an Anrich Nortje slower delivery. They lost wickets in heaps, ultimately falling short by 52 runs, and bowled out with 11 balls to spare. Skipper Wayne Parnell and Nortje both picked up three wickets each for the team.
